An’Pagay / electric maloya

An’Pagay gathers Creole energies from L.a Reunion and Mauritius islands for a great climax change that dramatically raises the temperature. This organized disorder is born under an auspicious star and with a mixing of hot air currents… Favourable conditions that guide this adventurous party into new waters, those of the Indian Ocean and the Mascarene islands’ musical traditions!

To that end, the global trances’ explorer Romain Dugelay invited Luc Moindranzé Karoudjia, a leading figure of the new maloya. These musicians from two bands at the crossroads of many lands created a burning alloy… A new family was born! And each one of their gatherings is a warm and ecstatic celebration. From the Lyon’s underground vein, the power trio Kouma pushes forward its original instrumentation. If the metronomic Léo Dumont sticks to his drum set, Damien Cluzel is practicing his science of timing on bigger strings, which are yet still as sensitive. Romain Dugelay goes one step up with the alto sax and heaps of electronic additives…

Margaux Delatour’s voice is an essential tie between these three partners that she regularly played with during the Afro-Colombian journey of Pixvae, and the new maloya team of Ti’Kaniki led by Luc Moindranzé Karoudjia. There she offers calls and responses with the solar singer Cindy Pooch… To make the table larger, the free electron Wendlavim Zabsonre (from Supergombo…) comes as a second spicy drummer.

Inventor of new traditions forged by his experience of the modern music, Romain Dugelay keeps exploring the territories of modernity with the help of fiery traditions. If the tumultuous stream of colonisation and globalisation bears dumpers of horror and violence, this explosive composer knows how to extract shiny nuggets from it. With An’Pagay and Pixvae, he leads the contemporary Afro-Atlantic gold rush! If we add up his stylistic discoveries from Kouma’s metal/noise and Polymorphie ensemble’s lyric poetry, we tell ourselves that crossbreeding is more than a virtue; it’s a matter of life!
