Juan Carlos Arrechea Quartet / Quartet

Juan Carlos Arrechea, a Colombian percussionist, composer, producer, and songwriter, has become a prominent figure in the music scene. Born in Bogotá, he has accumulated over 20 years of experience and performed more than 300 concerts in 30 countries. His music, a true bridge between tradition and modernity, celebrates Afro-Colombian roots while integrating contemporary influences, particularly jazz, which he skillfully blends with traditional sounds.

Over the years, Arrechea has worked with prestigious artists and bands such as Femi Kuti, ChocQuibTown, Monsieur Periné, and La Mambanegra. His ability to merge different styles and his remarkable percussion skills allow him to create unique sonic experiences combining Afro-Colombian rhythms, jazz, and modern musical languages. He has also contributed to Grammy-nominated projects, enhancing his reputation and that of Latin American music on the international stage.

Today, he presents his new project, accompanied by long-time Colombian collaborator Israel Quiñones on the bombo drum, Lorenzo Morrone on the cununos, and Hugo Reydet on the electric double bass. Together, they offer a fresh musical concept centered on the marimba de chonta, an iconic instrument from Colombia’s Pacific coast. This work highlights the richness of this musical tradition by blending it with percussion, jazz, and other influences from their personal musical journeys.

This  project transport listeners a vibrant and immersive experience, where the deep, hypnotic melodies of the marimba intertwine with powerful and captivating rhythms, providing a unique cultural and sensory journey. With passion and creativity, Juan Carlos Arrechea continues to represent Colombia on the world stage while paying tribute to his roots.
