Kouma / Wild power trio
Like the Schrödinger’s Cat or Penrose stairs, Kouma is a paradox. With a both dry and oozing sound, also metallic and hammering, which springs up like a geyser, this mutant power trio seems to get out from the bowels of earth. On abrasive and bumpy drums, Léo Dumont mistreats rhythms and hustles the labyrinthine baritone guitar’s riffs of Damien Cluzel, the baritone sax and lo-fi keys of Romain Dugelay. Three versatile musicians are entirely committed with their bodies and souls to the confines of tagged genres.
Hundred miles away from the consecrated jazz’s cannons, although mostly alien from the independent rock spheres, Kouma loves nothing more than to pace the crossroad stages, those where labels are torn apart, where underground appears in broad daylight. So yes, Kouma is a little bit like the back of the cellar that is rebelling, the slapping psycho trash rock. A gruff bear’s head that is grafted on a playful pony’s body… Totally relentless and soundful mathematics, which is heard while shouting.
